Sweet Pennants and a Hot, Sticky Day

Happy hot and sticky Tuesday, everybody!
Wasn't it nice to get a glimpse of summer after all of the rain and cold weather we've had?  I have to admit, by the end of the day I was grumbling about the humidity!  lol  I was so sticky, and hot and the kids faces were SO red!

I wanted to share a fun project that the kids and I did before Mother's Day.  I found the idea HERE on one of my favorite blogs, Miss Mustard Seed.  Seriously, this woman is amazingly talented and her creations/finds match my tastes perfectly.  Seeing her ingenuity and creativeness has sort of reawakened my LOVE for decorating and design(on a budget).  You really don't need a lot of money to make things pretty fantastic, and she reminded me of that.  She's a fellow thrifter, too!  Have I ever mentioned that I love garage sales???  lol

Okay.  On to our version of the 'MOM'  pennant/banners.

First, we made these for my mom and my mother-in-law second mom  to get the gears turning and then the kids ran with it and made their own versions.

Here is Eleanor's banner.
She had it all made and hung on Mother's Day.  :)

And here is Jack's.
I love how they made them!

Here is Henry's.  lol  He was being a pouty pants, so I helped him make one with HIS name.  Afterwards, he said I could throw it away!  *GASP*  How DARE he?  :)  He got a grip and redeemed himself later that day.

Here is one I tried just for fun!
These are all SOOOO easy, cheap, and better than getting a card(in my opinion).  Store bought card, that is!  First, I must say, Madelyn was SO excited because I used glitter and she is ALL about the glitter, color, and sparkles!  I don't usually don't use sparkly things on my projects, because I like more muted, earthy tones and materials.  She is too funny! She spent hours creating an adorable banner for her friends' birthday.  She then  OBSESSED about it for 2 more hours!  Gee, I wonder where she gets that from??  Uh-hem!

I have to say that although Maddie opted out of the banner idea(for me,*tear*), she made me THREE homemade cards.  She has a very sweet spirit and loves giving to others.  I love that about her.   :)

Ok.  I like how the jute twine tones down the glitter.

I think I had just as much fun as the kids!  I DO love projects but I think we're good on banners.  For now.  Maybe.  :)

All we needed for these:
*scrapbooking paper
*tissue paper
*burlap material
*glitter
*twine
*hot glue gun
*chipboard letters
*fun stickers
*elmers glue
*YOUR IMAGINATION!

Oh, yes, and here is one more that we made!  It's not for Mother's Day...it's for EVERYDAY!   I love this phrase and wanted to use it somewhere in my house.  This was the perfect way(for me) to do it!  Now it hangs above the kitchen sink where I spend a LOT of my time!  What a great reminder that my Healthy Hope is found IN CHRIST ALONE.  Without Him, I am NOTHING.

Sorry for the poor quality photo!  The light in my house wasn't great and my camera isn't the greatest.  :)

I hope you enjoyed our little project and maybe you will be able to create one of your own!  You could use any words like DREAM, SWEET, DWELL, LOVE, someone's name, etc.....
It's really fun!

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Ephesians 2:8,9
