Lamp Makeover

Hey there, friends!
I wanted to share a little lamp redo with you.  
No more coop progress, because the master builder is back to work! 
 :-) 

Here is a lovely little lamp I found at Goodwill {$5}some time ago.
My daughter LOVED carrying it around the store for me!  Not. 
It was sort of a tealy, gold, spongey painting of a mess, and my kids didn't get it, but I liked the shape!




 I had already started painting it white with Annie Sloans chalk paint in Old White
when I realized I should snap a picture.
Aren't you jealous of my 70's orange counter tops?  lol
We are planning on building I am planning on my
 husband building us some reclaimed wood plank counter tops someday.  
He made me wood counter tops in the house that we bought, fixed up, and sold and I LOVED them!  




Anyway, I painted the whole lamp in the Old White paint, but didn't love it, so then I added a second color, Annie Sloan's Duck Egg Blue{thrown in my order as a free sample}.  YAY!  

After that, the lamp sat for about 3 weeks waiting to be finished.  :-) 
I wasn't loving the progress until one day my daughter, Elly wanted a project.
DING DING DING!  
I suggested painting the lamp, so she did.
In the end, we ended up dry brushing old white back OVER the top of the duck egg and gave it a good distressing with fine steel wool.
I then added a light coat of Delta Burnt Umber Creamcoat acrylic paint, let it sit on the surface for about a minute, and then wiped it off with a rag, working it into certain areas for a weathered look.
We finished it off with a light spray of laquer and called it a day!  
I think it looks much better now.

We scouted out the lampshade at our local thrift store for $2 new in the package months ago.
YAY!  

My oldest daughter is becoming quite the project queen. 
I think all of these projects are helping with the teenager transition.
We are definitely bonding. :-) 
Here she is with the treasure she found recently at a junk spot we often visit.



She loves the thrill of the hunt.

Memorial Day Fun and COOP Progress!

Ahhhh.....peace and quiet.

Seriously.  How many times does it take for a child to actually go to bed and STAY there?
Apparently FOUR,  if you're my children{boys, that is}!  
"Mom...Jack twisted my cheeeeeeek!"
"MOM!!!!  It's hot in here."
"Mom!!!!!  Henry pulled my hair!!!!!!!"  *sobs*
BEST ONE OF ALL....
"MOooooooom!  My neck hurts because dad told me I had to lay on the side away from Henry{because they couldn't keep their hands off of each other}, AND I just CAN'T lay on that side because it hurts!"

GO. TO. BED.


And that's EXACTLY what I'm doing with my peace and quiet!

Ok, then!  Now that I got that off of my shoulders, I hope you had a relaxing day with the ones that you love.  I'd say we had a pretty productive, fun day.

When I came home on Saturday from the homeschool conference, my hubby had been busy! :-)

To make the floor, we are using old deck boards from a deck that we my husband tore off of the front of the house.  We were a few short, so we decided to have at the back deck because we were going to tear it down anyway.  
CHA-CHING!  Talented hubby=free coop floor!

Madelyn was busy{and HOT} chopping rhubarb for some pies...


I even had 10 cups extra to freeze!  YUMMO!


The homeless little chicks...


They are actually living in our garage right now inside a wooden sandbox that I bought for the boys last year at a garage sale...hmmmmm....good thing we bought that, huh, hon?  :-)

I am totally excited about the progress we are making.  We have found some SUPER cheap and cool used 'junk' to really make it unique!  Did I mention cheap?  lol

After all of the building and chopping we took a little road trip through Amish country and found a few goodies{there's a WHOLE separate post for that}!

Onto SUPPER TIME!

Earlier today, I boiled eggs and taters for potato salad and when we got home, I put it all together and we  grilled bleu cheese infused burgers topped with bbq sauce and shredded cabbage.  
For dessert, I made 2 RHUBARB BANANA PIES. 
 My favorite{thank you, Sharon!!!}
 *drool*
I am not creative enough to come up with burgers like that myself, so here is where I found the inspiration...

One more thing...my pies bubbled over so much that I don't think I'll EVER get the burnt filling off.
I'm not kidding. 


We feel so blessed to live in this great country and it was so wonderful to relax and spend time together in the midst of our crazy hectic life.


We truly DO enjoy it, even though peace and quiet is nice sometimes.

Remembering

Happy Memorial Day weekend!
I hope that you are all having a relaxing weekend enjoying your family, friends, and freedom.


I hope that we NEVER forget....

I am SO grateful for our brave soldiers {and their families} who have sacrificed so much to serve and protect our great country, allowing me and my family to live free.

I am eternally grateful.

Words can never convey my love and gratitude for all you have done.

All gave some.  Some gave all.


Most importantly, thanks be to God, Who gave The Ultimate Sacrifice so that we may have freedom from sin and the penalty of death when we put our faith and trust in Him!

Attitude

Hi, friends!  
What a day!   
1.) Dropped the three older kids off for a fun 'field day' at a local Christian school for some fun play time.
2.) Took my youngest{5} out for lunch...giggled and cherished our time together.  :-)


3.) Brought my girls to their final piano lesson of the year.
4.)  DRAINED THE BATTERY of my new{to me} van, letting the boys watch a movie during the lessons.  Oops!
5.)  Called hubby to rescue me.
6.)  Had a VERY bad attitude and became irritable.
7.)  Slammed some cereal to the kids for supper, all cranky like.
8.)  Went to church...heard this...

Psalm 8

"O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
  
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

9.) Realized that I have ABSLOUTELY NOTHING to complain about.  God's mercy and grace are sufficient for me!  My attitude needed the adjustment.  Not my circumstances!  :-) 

Seriously.  Isn't God so good?  His promises are true.  He has blessed us with so much!

I just thought I would quickly share that with you because I REALLY needed it today!

Tomorrow I am off to the CHEA{Christian Home Educators Conference} to learn a lot, meet new people, and share our wonderful Shaklee business with them!  I LOVE homeschooling{most days}lol and I really like to help others.  Great combination.  :)  

I'm already a little sad though, because I'm sure going to miss my family.
